The rupee today surged by 17 paise against the dollar to 45.67/68 following aggressive selling of the US currency by banks and exporters amid its fall against other major rivals.
In active trade at the Forex market, the domestic unit resumed stable at its previous closing level of 45.84/85 a dollar. Later, it touched a low of 45.88 before recovering to end the day at 45.67/68, up for the fourth straight day. In the last four days the rupee had gained nearly 100 paise.
Forex dealers said that sustained dollar selling by banks and exporters mainly helped the rupee rise.
